“GCMHP Received NORWAC Delegation to Explore Prospects for Cooperation in Mental Health”
GCMHP received a delegation from the
Norwegian organization NORWAC during a visit aimed at strengthening cooperation
and partnership, and exploring opportunities for joint work in the fields of
mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in the Gaza Strip.
The delegation included Ms. Ruth-Kari Ramlelth
- Consultant/ Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Ms. Helen Huwaihi - Project
Coordinator, and Mr. Mahmoud Abu Amer, Programme Advisor.
During the visit, the delegation learned
about the experience of GCMHP and its role in responding to the growing mental
health needs of the community, as well as its mission and specialized services
for individuals and groups affected by crises. The visit provided an overview
of the range of services delivered by GCMHP, including psychosocial support,
individual and group psychotherapy, community-based interventions, as well as
training and capacity-building programmes for professionals working in mental
health and psychosocial support.
The visit also included a field tour of
GCMHP’s Gaza Community Centre, where the delegation gained first-hand insight
into the nature of the services and activities implemented by the center, the
mechanisms used to reach beneficiaries, and its role in providing mental health
and psychosocial support services, particularly to those most affected by
crises and challenging humanitarian conditions.
During the meeting, both sides discussed
opportunities to further develop cooperation and partnership in the coming
period, with the aim of strengthening the response to the growing mental health
needs in the Gaza Strip, improving the quality and sustainability of mental
health and psychosocial support services, and enhancing support for
humanitarian workers and service providers who face increasing pressures and
challenges on the front lines of the humanitarian response.
The meeting highlighted the importance
of strengthening joint efforts and exchanging expertise between local and
international organizations, while investing in the development of specialized
capacities and services to enhance the mental health system’s ability to
effectively respond to the community’s current and future needs.
The visit comes as part of GCMHP’s
ongoing efforts to expand its network of partnerships with international
institutions and organizations and to strengthen cooperation based on the
exchange of expertise and knowledge. These efforts contribute to the
development of mental health and psychosocial support services and support the
response to the growing needs of the Palestinian community in the Gaza Strip.
